Alicante Highlights

Alicante Harbour
Looking up towards the castle from the beach
So seeing as I didnt get chance to write much about my time in Alicante, I thought I would make a quick post with a few pictures to tell a few tales about my time in Spain. For those of you who don't know, Alicante is in South East Spain - hello sunshine! I chose to go here because it is an hour away from Benidorm which is where my auntie and cousins live, she moved there over 30 years ago and had my cousins there so they're all Spanish, great opportunity for me to practice my Spanish! I'm so happy I made this decision because Alicante is one of the mos amazing cities I have ever been to, and I will definitely be going again. I has everything; beach, castle, bars, restaurants, a university, amazing shops, beautiful weather and a crazy nightlife.

I took this on my first day in Alicante in January
Speaking of the nightlife, you can see in this next picture caught dancing away at the street Carnival held in Alicante earlier this year. Honestly, that is probably the thing that I miss the most. The stereotype that the Spanish are laid back and do everything late is spot on. We would usually meet up at someone's flat for pre-drinks at 10/11pm then head to bars and clubs around 1am/2am. It was crazy, so much later than here in the UK! Our faourite club didn't open until 3am and close at 7am so we'd get to sleep our hangovers off on the beach.

I got to visit Barcelona and Valencia while I was in Spain. I LOVED Valencia and want to go back. We went on an organised trip to the festival 'Las Fallas' which goes on for a couple of days where they set off fireworks in the day (about 10 per second, the loudest thing I have ever experiences), then they burn different sculptures around the city that have been built for this purpose, ending with a beautiful firework display at around 1am. I was lucky enough to get to go on the final day, which is when the displays are at their best!

That's pretty much all I got up to in Alicante. I basically went to Uni in the week then partied on the weekends, pretty much an average student! I got to visit my auntie and cousins a lot which was nice, It was a great way to practice my Spanish because I didn't make any friends that were native Spanish speakers, my friends were all ERASMUS students so we barely spoke Spanish which I hated. Oh well, at least I have some great memories!

h, x
